More family photo shoot

Here are some more pictures from our family photo shoot that we did about 6 weeks ago. Pictures taken by the wonderful and talented Tammy Muecke.

Happy 8 Months, Beckett!

Wasn't it just yesterday I was posting about Beckett turning 7 months old? It sure seems like it. I can not believe that our tiny little baby is now 8 months old. He is getting more and more personality every day. Here's what's going on this month:
  • He's still not officially crawling, but that doesn't stop him. He does a scooting move that I like to call "the worm". He gets to where he wants to go (usually to the dogs bone or any electronic cord within a 20 foot radius) VERY fast. I can't look away for two seconds without him getting into something.
  • He just recently cut his first tooth! It's his top left front tooth. He's being rebelious by not getting his bottom teeth first. I'm sure the rest will be following very quickly. We already think we can see his top right front one about to pop through.
  • He's still only eating two solid meals a day, but he's getting really good at feeding himself when we let him. He makes a huge mess, but has a blast doing it. His favorite food is yogurt. He gobbles that down.
  • He sleeps through the night a lot now. Not every night, but at least half of the time, if not more. A month ago I thought he would never sleep through the night so this is big news!
  • I don't think it's going to be long at all until he starts pulling up on stuff. He already tries to pull himself up on me, and he's getting pretty good at it. This means major trouble, and I'm terrified. I need to get on this baby proofing business ASAP!
He's pretty amazing, and I still can't believe that he's our son. He has such a huge personality! He loves to laugh and make other people smile. He has a fake laugh that he does to get us to laugh back at him. It always works, he's hilarious. He's also super shy. He will smile at you and then tuck his head down so you can't look at him anymore. Or bury his head in my shirt if somebody tries to talk to him. I know both David and I were really shy as kids, so it's not too surprising that Beckett is too. He still loves his swing and would be content sitting in it and watching the dogs run around the yard for hours. He's the best, we love him more and more every day, and I can't wait to see what new thing he will be doing tomorrow. Now here are some pictures:

Not funny dad, not funny.

Video game junkie already. Awesome.

Beck and Cliff are great pals. Lola still would rather just stay away from him.

Decisions, decisions

Beckett has enough Husker gear to last him through the season, no problem. So come Husker Saturday, I have a hard time picking out his outfit. Today I asked David which shirt Beckett should wear, and he couldn't decide either. So I figured it only made sense to let Beckett decide for himself.
I laid the two shirts that I couldn't decide between out on the floor in front of Beck. Then I told him to pick the one he wanted to wear today.

He took his time deciding between the two, carefully considering each one.
He finally decided on the gray and black one. It was a good decision. Next week he'll wear the red one, unless he decides otherwise, that is.

Grandma and Grandpa's house

Today we took a trip down to Plattsmouth to spend a couple hours with Grandma and Grandpa Sneller. First we played with the beads and other toys that I used to play with when I was little... (Notice the blanket he's sitting on, it's part of the story later.)

Then he ate lunch in an old wooden high chair that my sister, brother and I all ate in when we were babies...

Finally we played some more with Grandpa. Grandpa would build a house out of the blocks and Beckett would knock it down and break it apart. It was pretty entertaining to watch.

When we got home, we did something Beckett really enjoys... looking at himself in the mirror. He's so handsome, he just can't help it. We played in the water in the sink too, but didn't get any pictures of that. I was busy trying to make sure he didn't completely soak himself. He's so amazing and we have so much fun doing the simplest things!
Now more about that blanket he was sitting on in the first picture. I have been wanting to make a puff quilt for a long time. It's basically a blanket made from lots of little pillows. Well little did I know, my mother had gotten out an old blanket she had made MANY years ago for Beck to play on, and it was a puff quilt! So that just inspired me even more to get started. I went through all her fabric scraps and picked out a few that went together. That's my next project I'll be starting on tomorrow.

I'm also going to start working on a t-shirt shag rug. Just another idea I found on Pinterest. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. My mom gave me some burlap to use for the backing and my dad gave me a bunch of his old white t-shirts to start cutting up. I'll be searching the Salvation Army and Goodwill tomorrow for more t-shirts to finish the rug. Needless to say, I left my parent's house with a full to-do list!

Our Favorite Things

Cliff found a new toy out in the backyard. An old broom that the handle broke off of. He picks it up and runs around the yard with it like it's his trophy. He would barely hold still long enough for me to take his picture.

Beckett loves to play on his piano while Petey watches. He will scoot all the way across the room to get to his piano. Maybe this means he will have some musical talent?
He also likes laundry baskets....
....and (almost) crawling.
Then there's Lola. She just likes the peace and quiet. Unfortunately for her, Beckett and Cliffy make sure she doesn't get that very often.

Pinterest: my new obsession

Pinterest is the most amazing website ever. Seriously. I've got my next couple years worth of DIY projects all mapped out because of this site. So far I've made a ring sling, a rag blanket for Beckett, some canvas wall art, a canvas light project for Beckett's room, invitations for a baby shower I'm throwing, and a few different meals and desserts. Here's the wall art I made this weekend:
And here's the pizza casserole I made for dinner tonight:

Once I finish the light project for Beck's room, I'll put some pictures up. Next projects will be for the baby shower I'm throwing in October. I just can't leave Pinterest alone!

And he's off!

I wouldn't call it "crawling" just yet, but Beckett is able to move himself around the living room. He pops up on his hands and knees, and then throws his body forward a few inches, then does it all over again. If he sees a toy he wants, he gets going pretty fast. I think we're about to be in trouble. Needless to say, we're starting the baby proofing process. Here's a few action shots:
As you may have noticed, Cliff loves to hang around when Beckett's playing on the floor. He's always got to be near the action!

Rag blanket

I saw this blanket online and decided I would try to make it for Beckett. I got the tutorial off of Pinterest (only the most addicting website ever, in case you're not familiar) and got working on it last weekend. I finished it in a few days and am LOVING how it turned out.
Beckett likes it too.

Introducing....Petey the Puppy

Beckett spent yesterday morning with his Grandma Cheryl. When I went to go pick him up, she told me about the fun they had with one of her stuffed animals that she had in her toy collection.
Meet Petey the Puppy

Beckett LOVES this toy. Petey got to come home with us so we could have more fun with him. Beck wouldn't stop laughing last night when we were playing with him.
Move over Dad, there's a new funny man in the house.

Also an update from his 7 month post: Beckett now rolls from belly to back AND back to belly, is getting better at feeding himself, and best of all HE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT LAST NIGHT! He's gone up to 8 hours without waking up before, but that gets him to about 4 am, and I don't consider that sleeping through the night. He slept from 730pm-630am last night!

It's amazing the difference one week makes. He amazes me every day!

Our first Husker game!

Beckett got to experience his first Husker football game yesterday! David has been out of town, so it was just the two of us. We went over to the Yount garage to watch the game with some friends. We ended up leaving at halftime because Beck needed to nap, but he had a good time while we were there.
We have been looking for a Husker hat small enough to fit Beck for a while. I finally found one yesterday before the game. It fits perfectly and he doesn't mind wearing it. I absolutely love it!
